Introduction to Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism with Visiting Scholar, Rabbi Neal Gold, Thursdays, February 29 – April 18 at 7:00 pm. Our “Thursday Temple Teaching” adult education program features an eight-week course titled Introduction to Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism taught by visiting scholar, Rabbi Neal Gold. This course offers a meaningful, wide-ranging overview of Judaism’s mystical ways, including the origins of Kabbalah and how this enigmatic branch of Judaism can reverberate with us today. Join us at temple this Thursday, February 29 for an opportunity to meet Neal Gold in person (Zoom option available) prior to the subsequent online classes.

Other Upcoming Special Adult Education Programs

Women of Reform Judaism: Where We’ve Been, Where We’re Going, March 3 from 9:30 – 10:50 am. Guest speaker, Karen Gold, Secretary of the Women of Reform Judaism, will present an update on the organization and the “Sharing our Stories Project” that strengthens our connections to our spirituality and each another. Breakfast will be served.

Film Screening of Shared Legacies: The African-American Jewish Civil Rights Alliance, March 17 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Join us to watch this remarkable film emphasizing the importance of communities supporting one another for freedom and equality. Movie snacks of popcorn, candy and drinks will be served.

Charcuterie & Schmooze: Women & Judaism & Vashti & Esther, March 19 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. Join us for charcuterie and schmoozing at 6:15 pm followed by a 7:00 Purim-appropriate panel discussion that will reflect on feminism and femininity in Queen Esther’s world and ours.

Visit to “Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away” Exhibit at the Saunders Castle at the Park Plaza in Boston, Sunday, April 28, from 12:15 – 5:15 pm. Experience an up-close view of more than 700 original objects from the Auschwitz concentration camp and the profound impact of the Holocaust on all of humanity. Bus transportation will be provided and a debrief with Passover-friendly treats will follow. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited.

Braverman Brunch and Lecture – It’s More Than Calories: Food as Communication. Sunday, May 5 at 9:30 am. Guest speaker, Professor Andrew Tollison, will discuss 1) The slow food movement in a fast food society, 2) dinner time discourse, and 3) food as a connector to our pasts. Additionally, in recognition of Yom Hashoah, Professor Tollison will discuss In Memory’s Kitchen: a Legacy from the Women of Terezín, a beautiful memorial to the brave women who defied Hitler by preserving a part of their heritage and a part of themselves through recipes of beloved dishes.

“Oh. My. God.” study session led musical artist in residence, Dan Nichols, May 18 at 10:00 am. This Shabbat morning program will delve into what it means to be a human in relation to something greater than ourselves through the lens of songs about holiness, spirituality, and God. A bagel brunch will follow. Dan Nichols is one of North American’s most renowned and influential Jewish musicians. His melodies have become an integral part of the spiritual and liturgical experience of countless Jewish communities. Stay tuned for more information and registration on our website.

Intergenerational Tour of Touro Synagogue in Newport, RI, Sunday, June 2. This clergy-led day trip to the oldest synagogue in the United States will include special itineraries for all ages along with transportation to and from Temple Emanuel. Watch our website for more information and to sign up.

Ongoing Adult Education Programs

Taste of Torah with Rabbi Mates, Thursdays, 10:30 – 11:30 am in person and online. Anchor yourself through the wisdom of tradition and the rhythm of the weekly cycle of reading torah and text study. Join us for an interactive class, led by Rabbi Mates, as we explore the weekly Torah portion together.

Book Group, once a month on Wednesdays, 7:30 – 9:00 pm, online during the winter months and in person the rest of the year. Our book group is a warm and dynamic group of congregants who meet once a month to share and discuss good reads.

Larry Hodes Movie & Deli Series, once a month on Sundays from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. Join us for screenings of Jewish-themed films followed by discussion and a deli supper.

Israel and Antisemitism Programs and Resources. Classes, presentations, panels, discussions and more hosted by Temple Emanuel and organizations in the greater Jewish community.
