Adult Education

Temple Emanuel encourages everyone in our community to engage in lifelong Jewish learning. Our goal is to help individuals discover and strengthen their connection to Judaism. Throughout the year we offer a wide variety of classes and speakers for adult learners, including:

Taste of Torah
Join us for weekly Torah study, led by Rabbi Wilfond, where we will explore the weekly torah portion together. Classes meet Thursday mornings at 10:30 am. This class is open to both members and non-members, Jewish and non-Jewish members of the community.

Exploring Judaism
This course, led by Rabbi Wilfond, includes topics on Judaism’s history, traditions, culture and more. Open to all, this program is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Jewish life, whether you are part of a Jewish or interfaith couple, an adult raising Jewish children, a spiritual seeker, considering conversion, or a Jew who wants a meaningful adult learning experience. Wherever you are on your journey with Judaism, this class is designed to be a safe and welcoming place for you to explore.

Book Club
Our book group is a warm and dynamic group of congregants who meet once a month to share and discuss good reads.

Me’ah Classic
Me’ah Classic, a program of Hebrew College, is a comprehensive, engaging, and in-depth adult learning experience open to adults of all ages. Students take a 100-hour (“Me’ah” is Hebrew for 100), two-year journey through the narrative of the Jewish people. Classes are led by outstanding faculty who empower students to become part of the conversation. Students receive a certificate during a graduation ceremony at the end of their second year. The first semester course will be on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Temple Emanuel, beginning on October 20. Learn more and register here.

Adult B’nai Mitzvah Program

Want to learn to read and understand Hebrew? Want to learn to chant Torah? Want to have a b’nai mitzvah? Our “b’nai mitzvah academy” empowers adult learners to embrace Hebrew as a meaningful expression of their Jewish identity. The course is designed to meet you where you are and help you work toward your personal goals of acquiring or improving knowledge of the Hebrew language. Choose the  track that’s right for you (all of which are offered concurrently): how to read Hebrew, basic prayer book Hebrew or how to chant torah trope (cantillation). The multi-course program—with additional sessions in Fall 2026 and Spring 2027—will conclude with an optional b’nai mitzvah ceremony on June 11, 2027. Members who are not Jewish are welcome to join this class; those who wish to participate in the b’nai mitzvah ceremony may incorporate the course into their conversion process. Register here.

Sundays: 3/1, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 5/3, 5/17
