Adult Education

Temple Emanuel encourages everyone in our community to engage in lifelong Jewish learning. Our goal is to help individuals discover and strengthen their connection to Judaism. Throughout the year we offer a wide variety of classes and speakers for adult learners, including:

Taste of Torah
Join us for weekly Torah study, led by Rabbi Wilfond, where we will explore the weekly torah portion together. Classes meet Thursday mornings at 10:30 am. This class is open to both members and non-members, Jewish and non-Jewish members of the community.

Exploring Judaism
This course, led by Rabbi Wilfond, includes topics on Judaism’s history, traditions, culture and more. Open to all, this program is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Jewish life, whether you are part of a Jewish or interfaith couple, an adult raising Jewish children, a spiritual seeker, considering conversion, or a Jew who wants a meaningful adult learning experience. Wherever you are on your journey with Judaism, this class is designed to be a safe and welcoming place for you to explore.

Book Club
Our book group is a warm and dynamic group of congregants who meet once a month to share and discuss good reads.

Adult B’nai Mitzvah & Introduction to Hebrew Class
This exciting study opportunity provides participants with the skills needed to read from our most sacred scroll. The course commences in the Fall and is a rewarding experience for adults who have never celebrated becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. One hour of the class will be dedicated to learning about Jewish theology, prayer, Jewish holidays, life cycle events, traditions, customs, history, and value. The remainder of the class time will be dedicated to learning Hebrew. Upon completion of the course, class participants will help lead a Shabbat service alongside the rabbi and cantor.

Adult Education: Me’ah Classic

Are you interested in intellectual growth? The Me’ah Classic is a two-year, four semester Jewish history program taught by outstanding faculty from Hebrew College who empower students to become part of the conversation. The program is open to adults of all ages, whether or not they have a strong Jewish background. The classes would be on Mondays from 7pm to 9pm at Temple Emanuel, beginning after the High Holy Days.
